The Book of 42 portal is a public encounter, not an account-gated app. You can visit, reflect, play, and leave with a keepsake, without creating a login.
Cookies
You do not need cookies to read the Book. The portal is a public encounter. No login wall. No cookie consent gate. Optional “remember this device” below uses this browser’s own storage only when you turn it on.
If your browser or the live preview shell reports cookies as blocked, that is usually a third-party / iframe policy in the outer page. The Book still loads; only optional local memory (text size, opted-in scores) may not persist across visits. You never need to “allow cookies” to read plates, follow links inside the Book, or watch films hosted here.
What we collect
- In the browser, by default: nothing durable. Reflections, game scores, map pins, and cipher history stay in this browser only if you opt in below.
- We do not sell personal data. There is no ad network baked into this portal.
- Hosting may keep ordinary technical logs (for example request times and IP addresses used to deliver the site). Those logs are for running and securing the service. They are not used to build a profile of your reflections or game play.
- This portal does not load a third-party analytics or advertising script of its own. External links (X, Grokipedia) are third-party sites with their own policies.
Hall of Games
The Hall of Games is built for strategic perception, not engagement farming.
- Progress and scores are local to your device. Pattern of the Day streak, synchronicity log, Autopoiesis Garden, and text size (A A A) stay in this browser only.
- Nothing from gameplay is uploaded to a Book of 42 server.
- If a future multiplayer or leaderboard appears, it will be clearly labeled and opt-in.
Reflections & anonymous holding
Weigh the Heart, Daily Questions, Contemplatives, Myth, and Love surfaces default to session-only holding. Optional local persistence (below) never publishes your words. Public galleries, if added, will require an explicit anonymous share action. Nothing is ever uploaded silently.
Keepsakes
Shareable cards and text exports are generated on your device. Download PNG / text is a local file save. You own what you export.

Desire without the trap
The Book takes longing seriously. It also refuses the parts of destiny-branding culture that turn a person into a prize, a wound into a certificate, or pain into proof.
What stays open
Serious companionship. Recognition that feels older than the meeting. Aristophanes’ hunger for the whole. Diotima’s ladder. Public speech that names a soulmate without destiny branding. Two solitudes that can protect and greet each other.
What the Book will not bless
Ownership of another soul. Fusion as the only holy end. “Runner and chaser” scripts that excuse control. Pain as proof you found the one. Hierarchy of twin ranks. Any insight that isolates you from friends, money, rest, or medical care in the name of a cosmic match.
If the field turns sharp
Patterns that deserve a pause
- Someone claims only they can complete your chart, mission, or salvation.
- Leaving or resting is framed as spiritual failure or “karmic debt.”
- Isolation from friends, family, or clinicians is sold as purification.
- Money, labor, or sexual access is demanded as proof of twinship.
- Your no is rewritten as a test you must fail in order to grow.
What to do instead
Return stays ordinary
Keep one trusted human outside the story who can hear the room without needing the myth.
Medical and crisis care are not lower than mystical language. Use them when the body or mind is in danger.
The Symposium walk and Pursuit of the whole keep hunger and education in one house, without a bill of sale on another person.
A quiet day still counts. Not every intensity is a sign.

If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services. In the United States and Canada, call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. In the UK and Ireland, Samaritans: 116 123. You do not need a spiritual frame to deserve help.
Local persistence (optional)
Clears every Book key in this browser: scores, walks, text size, sound, listen resume, recent rooms, and the remember-device switch. Then the page reloads clean.
