What sidereal actually means
Sidereal comes from Latin sidus, sideris, a star, a constellation. In astronomy it names time and motion measured against the distant stars, not against the Sun’s place in the sky.
A mean solar day is about 24 hours: the average interval for the Sun to return to the same meridian. A sidereal day is about 23 hours 56 minutes 4 seconds: the interval for a distant star to return to the same meridian. Earth did not grow a second, contradictory rotation. We changed the reference.
A tropical year tracks seasons (Sun’s return relative to the equinox). A sidereal year tracks Earth’s orbit relative to the fixed stars. They differ by the slow drift of precession. Again: two honest clocks, one orbit.
Local sidereal time (LST) is the right ascension on the meridian for a given place and instant. It is star-clock language. The Book already keeps public LST stamps on some 420 seals as Hard timestamps, not as fate tickets.

The story is not a sundial. The story is a woman who had not been an astrologer, who opened a calculator after Love, and found 1693 printing 4:20 on the only meridian she actually uses.

Apparent solar time
A sundial. Noon is when the real Sun crosses your meridian. Those days are not equal. Earth’s ellipse and tilt make the Sun run fast or slow by as much as about sixteen minutes. That difference is the equation of time.
