Hesychasm

Hesychasm names a long Eastern Christian stream of stillness: the prayer of the heart, breath joined to a short invocation, attention gathered without spectacle. The Book does not claim this path as its own doctrine. It honors the craft: silence that is trained, not empty.

The hesychast tradition (Greek ἡσυχία, stillness) flowers in the Philokalia and the witness of figures such as Gregory Palamas. Practice centers on the Jesus Prayer, short, repeatable, carried with the breath, so that attention rests in the chest rather than scattering into noise.
